Privacy Policy
Effective 15 August 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Dor Haim Bobrutsky (“Splity”, “we”) handles information in the Splity app and on splitybill.com / splitybill.app. The short version: Splity has no accounts and no logins, we never ask for your name, email, phone number, or password, and we do not sell your data or use it for advertising or tracking.
No account, anonymous by design
You do not sign up. On first launch the app creates an anonymous identifierso your device can sync a bill in real time and remember your own bills. It is not tied to your real-world identity. There is no email, phone, or password anywhere in Splity.
What we handle, and why
- A display name you choose (e.g. “Me”, “Dana”) so people can tell each other apart on a shared bill. You pick it; it need not be your real name.
- Bill data — the restaurant name, line items, prices, taxes/service, who tapped which items, tips, and totals — so everyone at the table sees the same live split.
- Basic usage signals — a “last seen” timestamp for presence on a shared bill, the app language, a counter of how many free scans you have used, and anonymous product-analytics events (which screens and buttons you use) to improve the app.
Receipt photos — used to read the bill, not stored
When you scan a receipt, the photo is sent for automated reading (optical character recognition) and then discarded. We do not save the receipt image to our databases or storage. Only the structured result — the items and amounts — is kept as part of the bill. Camera access is used solely to capture the receipt you choose to scan.
Service providers we use
To run Splity we rely on a small number of processors, each handling only what it needs:
- Supabase — hosts the anonymous identity and bill data described above.
- OpenRouter — performs the automated receipt reading. The receipt image is transmitted for this processing and is not retained by us afterwards.
- RevenueCat and Apple — handle the one-time purchase. They process purchase and device information necessary to complete and validate the transaction. We never receive your card details.
- PostHog — anonymous product analytics: which screens and buttons are used, so we can improve the app. Tied only to the anonymous id, hosted in the EU, and never used for advertising or cross-app tracking. No display names or receipt contents are sent.
Each provider processes data under its own terms; the receipt image is transferred to OpenRouter for reading. If you would rather not have a receipt read this way, do not scan it.
Retention
Bill data is kept only as long as needed for the shared-bill experience and your history, and is purged automatically after a limited period (bills are removed roughly a month after they are created; your purchase/entitlement record is kept so your unlock persists). You can delete your own bills from within the app at any time.
What we do not do
- No advertising, no ad identifiers (no IDFA), no cross-app or cross-site tracking.
- No selling or renting of personal data.
- No collection of your real name, email, phone, contacts, or precise location.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the EU/UK GDPR or Israeli privacy law), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete data, or to object to certain processing. Because Splity holds no account or contact details, the practical way to exercise these is to delete your bills in the app, or to email us at hello@splitybill.com and we will help.
Children
Splity is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy; we will change the “Effective” date above when we do.
